Types of windows

Look around different homes and you would notice that several of these have gone for different types of windows. The windows of a church are very much different from the ones found at homes. Single hung windows are amongst the most common among the lot. Double hung are also found just as common with the only difference being that while only a single portion can be pushed up in the former, both can be moved in the latter. The vinyl makes them very durable against the elements outside and also prevents decay that is common with windows made of wood. Many windows also have a layer of air between two layers of glass. This is to aid in insulation and thereafter, prevent heat energy loss during the winter and transfer of heat into the room during the summer. This helps in keeping energy bills down. Energy efficiency is a hot topic these days and it would do you good if you choose ones with low U ratings, down.

Consideration

Windows have a few accessories that can be added to enhance the aesthetic property of the home. These include the use of blinds, curtains and screens. The use of glass should also be carefully inspected as these are very easily broke as these are constantly attacked by outer demands.

Cleaning

Cleaning of windows is essential as they are not only the owner's "eyes to the outside world' but also the vice versa. Replacing of old windows is also critical to tackle energy inefficiency. Unlike popular assumption, cleaning of windows is really easy. Pick up the right tools from the local hardware store and mix in a concoction as understood from local authorized user manual. Remove stubborn stubs of dirt by using a scrubber rather than a sharp object to get your way around it. Use the squeegee to remove excess water from the window. To perfect this, practice is the only option.

Windows are decorated openings that are used to usher in natural light and air- something that today's technology cannot replicate completely. However, proper selection and further maintenance is required to keep the window a beautiful part of your home.

At ownership meetings in Atlanta, Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the media, as he usually does at ownership meetings, wherever they are held.

But these ownership meetings are occurring at a time when the NFL has been reluctant to disclose information regarding the Saints? bounty investigation, specifically as it relates to the players who were suspended last month.? And in addressing the media on Tuesday, Goodell addressed the issue of making the information public.

In this regard, it?s particularly important to focus on what Goodell said, and on what he didn?t say.? From the official transcript posted at NFLCommunications.com, here?s the exchange:

On if there is any talk about releasing the proof of payment in Saints bounty scandal:

We released the facts back in early March.? We have met with the union a couple of times.? The union specifically told the players not to cooperate in the investigation.? We are in the midst of challenges on a variety of fronts with respect to the process of these appeals.? So as that plays out and as that is concluded how that process will go forward, we will certainly engage and make sure we are fulfilling every aspect of that; including the appeals process itself.

On if he would expect at some point the proof becomes public:

Contrary to characterizations of these comments elsewhere, Goodell said nothing about when the proof will become public.? He also didn?t say whether the information would be released with or without redaction or other protection of the names of the persons who provided it.

Regardless of whether the NFL officially releases evidence, it?s safe to say that any evidence produced by the league to the suspended players as part of the appeal process could be leaked to the media, by the NFL or the NFLPA.? The question becomes, then, how much evidence the NFL ultimately chooses to give to the NFLPA and the suspended players as part of the appeal process ? and whether the NFL will disclose any evidence that reasonably could be interpreted as undermining the conclusion that the players deserve to be suspended.

Goodell separately laid the foundation for a potential reduction in the penalties, pointing to the fact that the players who have been suspended refused to talk to the league before the initial decision was made.? Apparently, there?s a chance that Goodell will change his mind after hearing from them, if/when the efforts to steer the appeal process away from him fail.

?You second-guess yourself because that is what an appeals process is for,? Goodell said.? ?You want to hear what the players have to say.? Some of them indicated they wanted to come in and talk before the decision was made.? I invited them in.? They decided not to do that, at the NFLPA?s recommendation, I think.? I understand that.? When we get to the appeals, we will be able to talk about it and we will be able to hear from one another.?

The other benefit from a reduction in the suspensions is that it would make the in-house judge/jury/executioner seem meaningful, likewise making it harder for the players to attack the outcome of the appeals in court.

Disputed dinosaur fossil auctioned for $1M in NYC

NEW YORK (AP) ? A dinosaur dispute is brewing between the Mongolian government and an American auction house, which sold a fossil of a fearsome T. Rex relative despite a court order not to.

The 8-foot-tall, 24-foot-long skeleton of a Tyannosaurus bataar ? or tarbosaurus, a name that means "alarming lizard" ? went for $1,052,500 Sunday at a New York auction, says Heritage Auctions, which hasn't identified the buyer or seller. But the sale is contingent on the outcome of the Dallas-based auction house's court fight with Mongolian President Elbegdorj Tsakhia, the auction house said.

Elbegdorj says the fossil ? a nearly complete skeleton of a two-legged, fanged beast that stalked Central Asia about 80 million years ago ? may belong to his country. Heritage says that it was assured the specimen was obtained legally, and that Mongolia hasn't established the fossil's origins lie there.

The auction came a day after a Dallas judge ordered Heritage not to sell the specimen while the case played out ? and the sale happened even with Texas state District Judge Carlos R. Cortez listening via cellphone, said Elbegdorj lawyer Robert Painter. He said Monday he planned to ask the judge to find that Heritage defied his ruling and hold the auction house in contempt of court.

"It's an order, not a suggestion," Painter said by phone. "I think Heritage Auctions has a lot of explaining to do."

Heritage President Greg Rohan said in a statement Sunday that the auctioneers "respect the various opinions on the subject and wish to protect the legal rights of all parties involved."

About 75 percent complete and assembled so it's ready for display, the fossil is "a once-in-a-generation" opportunity for collectors, Heritage natural history director David Herskowitz said in a release. He told the Daily Mail of London last week that the skeleton was found more than a decade ago in the Gobi desert and is owned by a fossil collector from Dorset, a county in Britain's southwest.

News of the sale stirred alarm in Mongolia, which bans the exporting of dinosaur bones and fossils. While the tarbosaurus skeleton's discovery site hasn't been disclosed, much of the Gobi desert is in Mongolia, and Elbegdorj's court papers include a statement from an American Museum of Natural History paleontologist saying that Mongolia is the only place in the world where the tarbosaurus is known to be found.

"At stake are the heritage, history and culture of a sovereign nation," Elbegdorj's court papers say.

Rohan said in a statement that Heritage has "legal assurances from our reputable consignors that the specimen was obtained legally."

While the judge hasn't yet ruled on the heart of the dispute, he ordered Heritage not to auction or transfer the fossil to anyone for now.

"The skeleton is inherently unique and irreplaceable, and if it is sold to a bona fide purchaser, it will likely be unable to be recovered" by the Mongolian government, Cortez wrote.

A hearing is set for June 1.

MOSCOW (AP) ? President Vladimir Putin targeted those who dare oppose him Tuesday, introducing draconian new fines for protesters and handing out Kremlin jobs to widely detested lieutenants despite the public anger they have generated.

A new law introducing a 200-fold increase in fines for taking part in unsanctioned protests was given preliminary approval by the Kremlin-controlled lower house, setting the stage for toughening Putin's crackdown on dissent.

Opposition lawmakers denounced the new fines as an attempt to stifle criticism, warning that it would fuel broad outrage and destabilize Russia by depriving the public of a way to express discontent. Some warned that it may stop the middle class from protesting in Moscow but would fail to stem likely outbursts of anger against a series of planned reforms that would hike energy prices and cut social benefits.

Sergei Mironov, the leader of the opposition Just Russia party, said his faction was boycotting the hearings of the "odious" bill intended to "shut the people's mouth."

Police on Tuesday quickly rounded up several members of the liberal Yabloko party who attempted to protest the new bill outside parliament. Yabloko leader Sergei Mitrokhin told reporters before being detained by police that the law was intended to intimidate the opposition.

"A direct signal is being made by those in power: Sit down and keep quiet!" Mitrokhin said.

The lower house, dominated by Putin's United Russia party, voted 236-207 with one abstention to approve the bill in the first of three required readings.

Putin has toughened his stance against the opposition since winning a third term in March's election, rejecting a dialogue with its leaders and stonewalling their demands. Last week he gave a senior government job to a tank factory worker who had offered to come to Moscow with colleagues to help police break up anti-government protests.

Putin named his new Cabinet on Monday, retaining some key figures but dropping some of the most widely detested ministers, including Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev, Health Minister Tatyana Golikova and Education Minister Andrei Fursenko.

But that didn't mean Nurgaliyev was out of work. Showing his contempt for opposition criticism, Putin appointed Nurgaliyev as an undersecretary to the Presidential Security Council and named several other former ministers as presidential advisers.

Nurgaliyev has faced massive public outrage over widespread torture and other abuses by police, while Golikova and Fursenko have been linked to the worsening state of the nation's health care and education systems.

Another longtime Putin aide, former Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin, was put in charge of Russia's largest oil company, the state-controlled Rosneft, while Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov got the same job in the Kremlin. Putin's fellow KGB veterans Sergei Ivanov and Nikolai Patrushev were respectively re-appointed as the Kremlin chief of staff and the head of the presidential Security Council.

Putin's re-election bid was challenged by massive demonstrations against his rule that drew up to 100,000 people in Moscow, but the protests have abated after the vote and the Kremlin has taken a harsher attitude toward political foes.

A demonstration of at least 20,000 people the day before Putin's May 7 inauguration turned into a fierce battle with police after some protesters tried to march on the Kremlin. Scores were injured in clashes and hundreds were detained as police chased opposition members around the Russian capital.

Putin's opponents sought to maintain momentum by holding a series of protests in downtown Moscow, but police quickly dispersed them.

In a move to rein in the opposition, the new bill raises fines for joining unsanctioned rallies from a maximum of 5,000 rubles ($160) now to 1,000,000 rubles ($32,250).

Its authors also suggested introducing a punishment for any mass public gathering even if it lacks the formal signs of a political protest. That was a clear response to the creative new demonstrations popping up in Moscow, where participants leave their slogans and posters at home and walk silently so their actions don't formally count as rallies.

One of the bill's authors, Alexander Sidyakin, said protest organizers should also be sentenced to public service. "They should be given brooms to clean the mess left after their violations," he said.

Communist lawmaker Valentin Romanov said during the debate in parliament that the Kremlin wants new sanctions against protesters in anticipation of anger against upcoming unpopular social reforms.

"It's a pre-emptive move preceding a rise in social protests across the country," he said.

Due to term limits, Putin spent four years in the premier's seat after already serving two consecutive terms as president from 2000 to 2008. Despite the title change he remained Russia's No. 1 leader all along. His protege, Dmitry Medvedev, stepped down to allow Putin to reclaim the presidency, receiving the premiership in exchange.

Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov, speaking on Rossiya 24 television, described the former ministers given new jobs Tuesday in the Kremlin as the real Russian government, dismissing Medvedev's Cabinet as a decorative one.
